New high rank publication in Science Translational Medicine

We are happy to anounce another important publication of project A1 with the title " CD4+ T cells produce GM-CSF and drive immune-mediated glomerular disease by licensing monocyte derived  cells to produce MMP12" in Science Translational Medicine.

The group around Ulf Panzer characterized immune cell types from patients with immune-mediated kidney disease an in murine models of crecentic glomerulonephritis. A population of CD4+ T cells procuving granulocyte-macriphage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). These CD4+ T cells licensed monocytes to promote disease by producing matrix metalloproteinase 12 (MMP12) and disrupting the glomerular basment membrane. Inhibiting the GM-CSF/MMP12 axis reduced disease severitiy in the muire model of crecentic glomerulonephritis. Thus GM-CSF seems to be a potential therapeutic target in immune-mediated kidney disease.
